The degree in Product Design aims to provide students with multidisciplinary training through holistic co-operation between different academic fields.
The philosophy behind the design of the course is based on developing a multidisciplinary and versatile profile that serves the interests and needs of institutions, companies and design studios. The knowledge and experience acquired, both in the foundational areas of Arts, Communication and Design and Materials and Production Technologies and complemented by the Social Sciences and Humanities and Economic and Business Sciences, are intended to help students to develop a multidisciplinary and versatile profile centred on the development of design skills.
As a result, students will be able to apply their critical and innovative thinking, adapted to today’s world, and to respond thoughtfully and responsibly to the needs and demands of the user and society, in a variety of working environments.
Applicants for a degree in Product Design should be interested in acquiring fundamental and cross-disciplinary knowledge and skills in the following fields:

Aims
The aims of the Bachelor’s Degree in Product Design are as follows:
Graduate profile
Product Design graduates will be able to apply their know-how in areas involving the synergy between creativity, processes and the functional, physical, aesthetic and communicative characteristics that help to define innovative products.
They will be able to work in various business and institutional environments, in different production areas, and market their products and services as part of multidisciplinary teams.
They may also work as freelancers or sole proprietors, specialising in a particular area of design or having greater creative freedom to work in a broader field within their area of training.

“A licenciatura em Design do Produto sempre teve uma identidade muito própria, algo que considero ser essencial no âmbito académico. Trata-se de uma identidade que se reflete em projetos materializados, aproximando-os de contextos reais, não só do IPVC mas da própria região do Alto Minho. Em Design do Produto, a metodologia é pensar local e agir global, é considerar a importância das redes empresariais, é, no fundo, garantir projetos inovadores. As competências adquiridas ao longo de 3 anos permitiram-me desempenhar um papel de destaque no departamento de design de uma empresa de mobiliário de escritório.”
