PoliEmpreende is a contest of business ideas and plans that aims to evaluate and reward projects developed and presented by polytechnic students.

PoliEmpreende is jointly promoted by all Portuguese Polytechnic Institutes, and it has a regional and a national component.

At the regional level, each Polytechnic Institute promotes a set of initiatives for its students, which culminate in the selection of the best project. The winning projects of each region are subsequently submitted for evaluation by a national selection panel that will choose the three best national projects.

In both cases, monetary prizes are provided and distributed in accordance with the contest rules. In addition to the monetary prize, the project may also be offered incubation at In.Cubo.

Although this is a competition specially intended for the academic community, entities from outside the Polytechnic Institutes can also compete as long as they are part of teams where most of the members are from the Polytechnic community.

The contest is developed over several phases and aims to involve the participants in entrepreneurial matters and in the promotion of Entrepreneurship.

The Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo [IPVC] joined the Poliempreende project to discover and support new talents in the area of entrepreneurship.

With the challenge posed each academic year, the adhesion of the whole academic community and the general public is expected to launch innovative business-oriented projects, which will receive the necessary support after the evaluation phases by a selection panel, the first instance at the regional level. After this phase, the winning project will compete against the best projects from the regional phase of the contest — from all the other polytechnics — at the national level.

The main objectives of this contest include:

• The change in attitude of the academic participants in the project by inducing them to develop and apply methods that value the knowledge generated and to incorporate this practice in their regular activities in the sense of assimilating entrepreneurship
• Curricular enrichment with entrepreneurship, responding to the challenge of the Bologna Process
• The constitution of new innovative companies implanted regionally, with potential for growth
• Promoting innovation and patent registration
• Fomenting entrepreneurship in the regions of influence of the Polytechnic Institutes and SMEs created within the context of Poliempreende

Oriented towards students, alumni, teaching staff, and the community, this contest is the opportunity for them to launch their own project(s) based on a business idea.

The formation of working groups (involving students, graduates, and/or professors and even community experts) will be valued in the development of the project that may be presented at Poliempreende.

For a successful project, participants are expected to propose an innovative, transversal idea (their teams should include, for example, colleagues from other areas) and form regional and/or national partnerships, if possible, such as Associations, Companies, and local Administration.

The contest essentially aims to foster entrepreneurship in the academic community by further developing entrepreneurial skills; stimulating the creation of technology-based companies; taking advantage of the economic benefits of knowledge, skills, research results; and setting qualified frameworks at a regional level.

Over the course of the contest, Training in the areas of Entrepreneurship and Management Dynamics will be provided, so you do not have to worry!

In the first phase, training will focus on the sociological and organizational areas for the presentation of the idea. In the second phase, training will aim to conduct the development of a business plan to be presented in the contest by focusing on market analysis and the project’s economic and financial viability, among other aspects.

Evaluation Criteria

The IPVC Prizes will be divided into two parts: the first, corresponding to 50% of its overall amount, will be delivered in the year of the contest; the remaining 50% will be delivered upon presentation of a copy of the statement of initiation of activity, by the end of the second year after the year of the contest, proving the entrepreneurial implementation of the project.

The amounts for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for the Regional Prizes are, respectively, 2000 (two thousand), 1500 (one thousand, five hundred), and 1000 (one thousand) euros.

Regional Complementary Prizes (e.g. incubation) will be awarded under the conditions defined by the respective sponsor.

The contest is intended for:

• Students currently enrolled in Polytechnic Schools
• Graduates with any degree from Polytechnic Schools
• Professors of Polytechnic Schools or other individuals (who, for this reason, are barred from participating in the selection panel responsible for evaluating the proposals), provided that they are part of teams that have students and/or graduates

Business plans must be submitted by July 9, 2021, through the PIN Platform.

This workshop constitutes the 1st phase of Poliempreende, and it consists of sessions whose common theme is entrepreneurship.

The main objective of this phase is to generate and develop a business idea, translated into a short description of the proposed idea (form available in “Applications”).

This workshop aims to further the business idea along, culminating in the presentation of a business plan.

This phase consists of sessions where specific training will be given to facilitate preparation of the business plan (form available in “Applications”).

Wiki is an instrument created within the context of Poliempreende which enhances a collaborative construction of knowledge and communication among all the participants by generating a glossary on entrepreneurship.

WikiEMPREENDE is meant to be a space constructed by everyone through the creation and editing of web pages on various concepts in the area of entrepreneurship.
