To contribute to the development and expansion of the skills learnt in the first cycle.
To analyse the complexity of the provision and management of specialised care for children/teenagers with a serious or incurable illness at an advanced, progressive or terminal phase and their carers/families in different clinical practice contexts, aimed at relieving suffering and maximising well-being and quality of life, from an inclusive and multidisciplinary point of view.
To analyse and discuss the ethical and legal principles that guide specialised interventions on children/teenagers with a serious or incurable illness at an advanced, progressive or terminal phase and their carers/families, aimed at developing autonomous, multidisciplinary actions suited to each situation.
To apply their expertise in the paediatric palliative care area, with a view to developing autonomous and interdependent actions suited to each situation.
To apply their expertise in the area of the provision and management of specialised care to children/teenagers with a serious or incurable illness at an advanced, progressive or terminal phase and their carers/families in the different contexts of the children’s lives.
To advocate, based on scientific evidence, the provision and management of specialised interventions for children/teenagers with a serious or incurable illness at an advanced, progressive or terminal phase and their carers/families in the different contexts, life circumstances and transition processes.
To apply the ethical and legal principles that guide specialised intervention on children/teenagers with serious or incurable illness at an advanced, progressive or terminal phase and their carers/families.
Share knowledge, reasoning and conclusions with children/teenagers with serious or incurable illness at an advanced, progressive or terminal phase and their carers/families.
To integrate empirical, ethical, aesthetic, personal, sociopolitical and reflective knowledge and the abilities that are the basis for clinical decision-making in the area of paediatric palliative care.

Continuing Studies

The course is accredited by the Portuguese Nursing Association, with 3.5 Personal Development Credits.

FAQs

The course will be held at the Viana do Castelo School of Health. It is organised in two semesters, with 26 ECTS in the first and 24 ECTS in the second.

It is held from Wednesday to Friday, from 5 pm to 10 pm, and there may be Saturday classes.

Course attendance is compulsory, and it has specific operating regulations.
