Presentation
Graduates of the Higher Professional Technical Course in Educational Services and Local Heritage are qualified to engage in activities that promote and safeguard heritage, by applying theoretical knowledge and hands-on, cross-disciplinary experiences in a technically focused manner with a strong educational perspective. They are also expected to independently conduct activities tied to Natural and Cultural Heritage within educational outreach initiatives.
Graduates of this programme engage in and support educational projects and initiatives that foster a sustainable appreciation of heritage, cultivating a sense of connection both for local communities and visitors. They strive to engage a wide range of audiences and enhance educational offerings, especially in protected areas, geoparks, geosites, interpretation centres, museums, house museums and other venues emphasising environmental and cultural education.
They also seek to interact with key local and regional stakeholders with the aim of enhancing and developing resources and strategies that value the territory, its strengths, its agents and its actors.
Exemption from national exams for entry into higher education and leading to a Higher Professional Technical Diploma.
Guaranteed internship in a real work environment (1 semester).
High employability courses.
Opportunity to continue your studies to Bachelor’s degrees (with credit transfers/equivalencies).

Who can apply:
Candidates over the age of 23 who have passed the exams designed to assess their capacity for higher education attendance can also apply.
National Applicants or equivalent
International applicants (applicants who do not hold Portuguese citizenship, are not citizens of a EU member state and are not family members of Portuguese or citizens of a EU member state, have not lived in Portugal continuously for more than two years as of 1 January of the application year, are not beneficiaries of equal rights and duties status granted under an international treaty as of 1 January of the application year and who are not applying for higher education admission through special admissions and special entry routes).
All foreign applicants must request the equivalence of their secondary education qualifications from their home country from a Portuguese secondary school. The equivalence of your certificate to Portuguese secondary education is a mandatory requirement for the application.

Work experience is considered relevant for the accreditation of skills and knowledge. The course also allows for a credit transfer plan with the Bachelor’s Degree Course in Basic Education.

Research Projects
Matilde Sobral – Enhancing the Educational Service of the Castro de São Lourenço Interpretation Centre in Esposende. It consists of the requalification of the educational services provided, aimed at various audiences such as schools, families and other local groups, with the goal of raising awareness of the importance of local heritage and archaeology in particular.
Ana Barroso – Construction of the Educational Service for the Military History Interpretation Centre in Ponte de Lima. Promoting exhibitions and guided tours.
Ana Carolina Gomes – The Monastery of Vila Nova de Muia in Ponte da Barca (cultural and educational promotion through the project “Há Vida no Mosteiro”(There’s Life in the Monastery).
Maria do Carmo Tinoco – Study of the aqueduct route at the Ursulinas Convent (to be published in a national scientific journal).
Natália Azevedo – The Nossa Senhora do Norte Chapel in Deão Parish (study of this example of local cultural heritage): Rural 3.0 project.
