The main aim of the Higher Professional Technical Course in Farm Management is to train agricultural entrepreneurs who work with livestock and/or in plant production. They will develop a range of skills including planning strategies for maximising production sustainability, organising and managing operations, working with agricultural machinery and equipment, managing associated agribusinesses and labour management. Consequently, agricultural entrepreneurs will have technical and practical skills and capabilities that enable them not only to make sound business decisions but also to monitor and comply with industry regulations, as well as to meet all regulatory environmental, food safety and production quality standards.
This course contributes to the technical and professional training that leads to a new generation of modern, innovative, competitive, and successful agricultural entrepreneurs. They are expected to respond positively to this highly important political, economic, and social objective, which is reviving the agricultural sector in Portugal.

Who can apply:
- Candidates with a secondary education qualification or a legally equivalent qualification
- Holders of a Technological Specialisation Diploma or a Higher Professional Technical Diploma
- Holders of a higher education degree who wish to seek professional requalification
Candidates over the age of 23 who have passed the exams designed to assess their capacity for higher education attendance can also apply.

National Applicants or equivalent
International applicants (applicants who do not hold Portuguese citizenship, are not citizens of a EU member state and are not family members of Portuguese or citizens of a EU member state, have not lived in Portugal continuously for more than two years as of 1 January of the application year, are not beneficiaries of equal rights and duties status granted under an international treaty as of 1 January of the application year and who are not applying for higher education admission through special admissions and special entry routes).
All foreign applicants must request the equivalence of their secondary education qualifications from their home country from a Portuguese secondary school. The equivalence of your certificate to Portuguese secondary education is a mandatory requirement for the application.

Graduate profile
Graduates of the CTeSP in Agricultural Business Management should have in-depth, specialised expertise and theoretical knowledge in the following fields:
- Plant Production: Propagation, Nutrition, Plant Health, Harvesting, Post-Harvesting.
- Livestock Production: Reproduction, Feeding, Animal Health.
- Soil Management, Fertility and Conservation.
- Irrigation, Water Management and Conservation.
- Operation, Maintenance and Management of Agricultural Machinery and Equipment.
- Use, Conservation and Management of Buildings and Land Improvements.
- Main Pests and Diseases of Plants and Animals.
- Short-, Medium- and Long-Term Management.
- Marketing Farm Produce.
- National and EU Sector Policies and Legislation.
Therefore, graduates of the CTeSP in Agricultural Business Management should be able to:
- Work with animals, know how to feed them, clean them, monitor their health status, handle newborns and operate specific machinery (e.g., milking machines).
- Use agricultural machinery and equipment (soil preparation, application of pesticides and fertilisers, harvesting and post-harvest equipment, etc.).
- Drive and operate tractors, as well as combine the necessary machinery and equipment for farming.
- Carry out basic maintenance on buildings and equipment.
- Maintain permanent plantations (training systems, pruning, rejuvenation cuts, filling in, grafting, etc.).
- Set strategic and operational goals and know how to plan and implement the daily tasks of the farm.
- Plan production to maximise their business goals.
- Make long-term plans, setting company growth policies and determining necessary investments.
- Plan the marketing of farm products to seize the best market opportunities and fully satisfy customers.
- Comply with and benefit from agricultural, environmental, food hygiene and safety and land-use policies.
Professional outcomes
The CTeSP in Agricultural Business Management was primarily designed to enable graduates to operate and manage agricultural businesses. Therefore, the main career opportunity for these graduates will be as Agricultural Entrepreneurs or as Specialised Agricultural Technicians in Agricultural Businesses.

Graduates of the CTeSP in Agricultural Business Management are eligible to pursue the following bachelor’s degree courses at the ESA/IPVC without an entrance exam:
