The aims of this Master’s Degree Course are:
- To learn about the production of food of high-quality plant origin and demand in the national and foreign market, based on precision farming techniques associated with integrated production or other production methods that contribute to more sustainable farming, particularly in the vegetable growing, fruit growing, winegrowing and ornamental, aromatic and medicinal plants sectors.
- To learn skills in solving the problems that limit crop production and for the application of new techniques and procedures that contribute to the development of farming with less of an environmental impact.
- The strategic development of research, innovation, management and decision-making skills in the farming area, as well as communication and teamwork, with critical awareness aimed at lifelong learning.

Entry Requirements
Holders of a bachelor’s degree or its legal equivalent in the areas of Earth and Life Sciences, Agricultural Sciences (Agronomy and Animal Husbandry), Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering, Food Engineering, Biology, Ecology, Landscape Architecture.
Holders of a foreign higher education degree granted following a first study cycle organised in accordance with the principles of the Bologna Process by a State that is a signatory to this process in the areas referred to in paragraph (a) above.
Holders of a foreign higher education degree recognised by the Scientific and Technical Council at the Polytechnic University of Viana do Castelo (IPVC) as meeting the aims of the bachelor’s degree in the areas referred to in paragraph (a) above.
Holders of academic, scientific or professional qualifications that are recognised as attesting to their ability to take on this study cycle by the Scientific and Technical Council at the Polytechnic University of Viana do Castelo (IPVC) and that guarantees the candidate has the experience required in the areas referred to in paragraph (a) above.

Aims

Graduate profile
- Acquisition of skills for using the information gathered by sensors and geographic data in the optimisation of production factors and project organisation for the planning and implementation of agricultural installation projects, including environmental conditioning, and for the management of spatial data and the preparation of property registration.
- Ability to propose and implement plant improvement and propagation programmes, including biotechnology applications, managing water resources and using new irrigation technologies, as well as recommending crop fertilisation and protection for different production methods.
- Ability to use production and post-harvest techniques outdoors, in greenhouses and hydroponics, providing technical services in horticulture and landscaping, orchards and vineyards, making a strategic analysis of the horticultural, fruit growing and winegrowing sectors and implementing integrated management and marketing plans and programmes, as well as developing innovation and research projects.
