The Sport Science and Leisure programme is based at the School of Sport and Leisure in Melgaço, to take advantage of the outstanding conditions offered by the Municipal Sports Complex and the surrounding natural environment of the Peneda-Gerês National Park.
The Sport Science and Leisure programme is a first cycle degree course organised according to the Bologna Process and is aimed particularly at people who wish to work in Sport and/or Physical Education.

Goals
Aims
To prepare senior professionals qualified to work in the areas of sport and leisure and respond to the needs of local authorities, clubs, associations, fitness centres, companies linked to physical activities, adventure and nature, etc.
To prepare professionals by enabling them to work in today’s modern leisure activities, particularly through participation in sports tourism and leisure organisations.
To equip graduates with an entrepreneurial spirit, capable of promoting and building their own sports and leisure service companies.
To provide graduates with the scientific autonomy necessary to pursue graduate studies, both in teaching physical education (Master’s degree in physical education teaching) and sports science (Master’s degree in sports).
Graduate profile
Throughout the course, in addition to the opportunity to study traditional sports, students will have direct contact with the new areas of fitness activities, nature exploration and environmental tourism. They will also have the opportunity to learn more about the physical and sporting activities they choose, either by studying or through the experience they gain during professional internships in companies, clubs, etc.

It offers access to the Master’s Degree (2nd study cycle) which confers a professional qualification for specialised areas in Sports Training, Fitness Activities, Nature Sports, Physical Education, Physical Exercise and Health, etc.” The curricular structure includes a strong scientific approach accompanied by a component of practical studies for fitness activities, nature exploration and environmental tourism, as well as an approach to more institutionalised sports.
