Presentation
The Higher Professional Technical Course in Veterinary Care aims to equip senior technicians with knowledge and skills in several areas, such as small animal practices, livestock clinics, animal hygiene and health, public health, livestock production and animal welfare.
Graduates of the Higher Professional Technical course in Veterinary Care are points of contact who, independently or under the supervision of a veterinarian, are responsible for planning, organising and implementing a range of activities related to animal healthcare. Their expertise also extends to technological areas that support veterinary medicine and livestock production, including roles in clinical analysis labs, species conservation centres and breeding facilities and as veterinary equipment specialists.
They can also be responsible for collecting and storing samples and sending them to the laboratory, implementing lab-based methods and supplementary diagnostic techniques, as well as setting standards for the accommodation and care of farm animals, pets, exotic creatures, wildlife and laboratory animals.

Who can apply:
- Candidates with a secondary education qualification or a legally equivalent qualification
- Holders of a Technological Specialisation Diploma or a Higher Professional Technical Diploma
- Holders of a higher education degree who wish to seek professional requalification
Candidates over the age of 23 who have passed the exams designed to assess their capacity for higher education attendance can also apply.

National Applicants or equivalent
International applicants (applicants who do not hold Portuguese citizenship, are not citizens of a EU member state and are not family members of Portuguese or citizens of a EU member state, have not lived in Portugal continuously for more than two years as of 1 January of the application year, are not beneficiaries of equal rights and duties status granted under an international treaty as of 1 January of the application year and who are not applying for higher education admission through special admissions and special entry routes).
All foreign applicants must request the equivalence of their secondary education qualifications from their home country from a Portuguese secondary school. The equivalence of your certificate to Portuguese secondary education is a mandatory requirement for the application.

Graduates of the Higher Professional Technical Course in Veterinary Care are skilled professionals capable of organising and implementing handling operations and veterinary care for pets, farm animals, wildlife and laboratory animals. Whether working independently or under the supervision of a veterinarian, they facilitate tasks in areas such as nutrition and reproduction, treatment, rehabilitation, hygiene and animal health, clinical support, animal aesthetics and ethology. They act as a liaison between breeders/clients and the veterinary healthcare team, addressing issues related to animal health and well-being.

Graduates of the CTeSP in Veterinary Care are eligible to pursue the following bachelor’s degree courses at the ESA-IPVC without an entrance exam:
- Veterinary Nursing – 54 ECTS
