Presentation
Decentralised energy production facilities are becoming more complex and so is their integration throughout the electrical system, using renewable energy sources. This includes everything from large-scale production to small units and self-consumption. Their role in processes, from connecting to the grid to ensuring quality and stability in the electrical system, is increasingly crucial. As a result, there is a pressing need today for fresh approaches and updated knowledge to navigate the changing landscape of electrical energy systems.
This new paradigm encompasses electric mobility, including electric and hybrid vehicles, as well as their charging systems and the development of smart grids.
In this regard, Portugal’s 2030 strategy defines priorities in strategic infrastructure investments in the Mobility and Transport, Environment and Energy sectors. It demonstrates a strong commitment to energy sustainability and addressing climate change, promoting decarbonisation and energy transition.
Achieving these goals largely relies on electrotechnical engineering solutions, especially in the area of electrical energy systems. In this landscape, this training project represents a key element, addressing both current needs and upcoming challenges.

Goals
Aims
The core aim of this course is to train professionals to independently, under supervision or in a team setting, undertake the planning, supervision and implementation of the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical energy systems. The emphasis lies on the electrical networks employed in the transportation and distribution of electric power, as well as systems for domestic energy production. This encompasses automation and system control, adherence to quality principles and compliance with specific safety regulations and standards that protect people, equipment and the environment. The graduates will be capable of project management, task coordination and team supervision.
Graduate profile
The skill set of our graduates encompasses the following areas:
- Contributing to the development of network projects (HV, MV and LV) and electrical installations, particularly in circuit design, equipment selection and measurements, interpreting and producing appropriate technical documentation in accordance with current conventions and standards.
- Assisting in specifying an automation and control system for electrical energy systems.
- Overseeing and coordinating the implementation of electrical energy systems, taking on the responsibility of leading and managing team tasks.
- Carrying out operations and tests, commissioning and maintenance of an energy electrical system, including domestic production systems and associated electrical networks and installations.
- Apply safety and protection standards for people, equipment and the environment in all activities.
- Engage in technical and commercial activities in the areas of electrotechnics and electrical installations, as well as automation and control of electrical systems.
Professional outcomes
- Companies in the electrical installation sector.
- Companies manufacturing electrical machinery and equipment.
- Companies in the fields of electrotechnics, electronics and automation.
- Companies specialising in electrical energy systems.
- Companies maintaining electrical equipment and power grids.
